Roger Creager at Billy Bobs (Copy)
We kicked off our first memory of living out a song, My Texas by Josh Abbott Band by singing “‘Everclear" at a Creager show” at Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, Texas, naturally. Wow! What a fantastic show! I’ve been to Billy Bobs quite a few times but I’ve never heard Creager play there, and actually, I’ve never heard Creager in concert before….that I can recall. Anyway, my husband and I went Saturday, August 3rd and it was fantastic! He and his band are real performers and we both enjoyed how much of a storyteller he is on stage. He kept us entertained the entire time!
If you are reading this and you’ve never been to Billy Bob’s you need to know the following:
It’s called the World’s Largest Honky Tonk and it’s an iconic Ft. Worth staple. You can dance, drink, and attend live concerts and events all in the same place. It’s perfection is what it is. When you go on concert nights you can pay GA pricing and stand on the sides or in the space and listen to the music or buy seated tickets at the tables in the main space. The seating for concerts is located directly behind the dance floor. The rule: you cannot stand up during the concert. You must remain seated at the tables. Weird, I know, but it’s a thing. If you know you know. So, consider yourself warned. It’s tough to remain seated the entire time when you’re enjoying the music and I stood up at one point and was politely asked to sit back down by the usher. They don’t play, so don’t push your luck.
Arrive early, grab a drink, hit the dance floor to two-step. They don’t start the line dances until much later in the night.
Now back to Roger Creagor. For those who don’t know, his style is a blend of Texas country: it’s like country meets Buffett, meets blues, meets latin. And if that sounds like a lot, it is! It’s fabulous! I highly recommend hearing him live in concert. I sang along to “Everclear” checking our first Josh Abbott Band, “My Texas” adventure.
